#MIRC_COLORS
(by Cryssy) That is our channel and. as it says, it is all about colors, so if you enjoy colors, this is the place to be!
Art ContestOur first art contest is now over, and we hope everyone had a good time watching and participating. JustSweet had a big job organizing the contest, but, sadly, was not able to be there to watch the outcome. Plato took over on that night, and did a great job in getting the contest running. Nice text about the contest, Plato. Rifleman had done some very nice text files to play at the contest. Thanks, rifleman! We had some very competent people as judges - a big "thank you" to TooShy and MikeChat. We hope they had fun - we know they had a hard time making a decision.

The winning text files are on our homepage: Click on the Contest link.
For scripts, click Scripts. The Contest was great, and it will not be the last contest in #mirc_colors on Starlink-IRC, that is for sure.

A STARLINK-IRC EXCLUSIVE!
DGDanalyser: will be released on Saturday Feb 20, 1999 at 7 PM EST in #mirc_colors. What is that? Never heard of it! That is correct, cause dgdanalyser is something completely new, that has been developed. dgd analyser is a program for sin95/98/NT, that will analyse the current running mIRC. It reads the files you have loaded and checks the settings, then it provides you an easy view over all your popups, aliases, events, etc. This way it is easy to get a full view over the things you are using, easy to find what file contain what events, etc. It will even report misalignments in the popups menus. After analysing, you can safely share the information with others; e.g., if you want someone to look at your setup, you can do so easily just by sending the result file, which can then be loaded into the dgdanalyser by the person who is helping you.
Rifleshow. Rifleman is doing a show Saturday, March 6 at 8 PM EST, in #mirc_colors. The show will be based on the mrc rifleshow.mrc, and it will be handed out after the show. Midi files for the show can be downloaded on our homepage, so you can have them ready before the show begins. The mrc is based on a new mrc engine, dengine.mrc, that is a shell to create text .mrc's in. The engine will also be released after the show. We hope you will be able to be there, and will enjoy this show.
#NORWICH
#Norwich family channel is enjoying visits from "oldtimers" Hudnut, Kookum, Zingo, Leighaa and comma.
Busterc, channel owner, has been appointed a C-Service member, on top of his being an IRC Op. Congrats, bus!!
Lois's 80th birthday is February 20! (She is also the editor of this SLIRC Newsletter!)
Lois was in the hospital for a one night stay - her ticker was dancing to its own drummer. She's happy to be home, and received her own special laptop charm from her SLIRC family that she wears around her neck without fail! She wants to emulate buster, who carries his laptop to the hospital with him! Her twin daughters will be celebrating Lois' birthday with her, lunch for three at the Victorian Tea Room, festivities!! Happy Birthday, Lois! (reported by tortuga of #norwich)(oops, now she knows!)
#Norwich is, indeed, a family channel! Willco and deano are brothers, sharkie is deano's son, all in Iowa. Lois's twin daughters now are regulars on the channel - they are Tortuga and wcfields - and all live in Oregon. See pictures and bios on the #Norwich home page
WHO'S DOING WHAT?

ellegon of #Emerg_Serv_Lobby is a grammydragon!!

FOGWEB FOLLIES
A short column of made-up facts and non-information brought to you by your friendly neighborhood arachnid

Your intrepid arachnid has learned through various sources that a certain unnamed ellegon is now a grammydragon. Be sure to message her dozens of times a nite to congratulate her !

One of our 'amazing' admins has yet again been announcing invisible things in townhall... "new" servers that are offline, new opers that arent around, channels that have invisible owners .. that sort of thing. While announcements are nice, shouldn't the thing announced like, you know, be around? Just a thought. Course, given world politics these days ... oh, nevermind ....

Now, not to gloat or anything (of course), but a certain 'waterside' Cafe has been seen using flannel placemats and flatware .. without telling the patrons in advance or paying for them!! The placemats aren't a big deal, but you should see how long it takes to sharpen a flannel knife !!

There seems also to be an anti-tacky movement on #Just4fun. This adventurous spider was in there the other nite and spammed, er, posted, a website for TACKY postcards (www.tackycards.com) .. some people! Whats wrong with tacky? Hasn't anybody been watching US politics lately? This reporter thinks its high time that tacky is given the true credit it is due for making the world the place it is. Hmmm. That may need rephrasing.

Your depraved ^H^H^H^H^H curioius scribe also notes that a certain canadian member of channel service (recently a couple bucks richer from the tooth fairy) was spotted in undernet in a 'tv" channel .. and I don't think it was for checking out sweeps week .. stay tuned.

For those who missed it, the 14th was Valentines Day ... and NOT St. Patricks day, as a couple folks who will remain nameless seem to have forgotten. Sure, the popups were nice ... but a tad out of place.) Oh well, seen one saint, seen em all I always say!

Have a Happy Groundroach Day!

TWO DIGITS FOR A DATE
(To the tune of "Gilligan's Island," more or less)

-

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
Of the doom that is our fate.
That started when programmers used
Two digits for a date.
Two digits for a date.
-
Main memory was smaller then;
Hard disks were smaller, too.
"Four digits are extravagant,
So let's get by with two.
So let's get by with two."
-
"This works through 1999,"
The programmers did say.
"Unless we rewrite before that
It all will go away.
It all will go away."
-
But Management had not a clue:
"It works fine now, you bet!
A rewrite is a straight expense;
We won't do it just yet.
We won't do it just yet."
-
Now when 2000 rolls around
It all goes straight to @#%&,
For zero's less than ninety-nine,
As anyone can tell.
As anyone can tell.
-
The mail won't bring your pension check
It won't be sent to you
When you're no longer sixty-eight,
But minus thirty-two.
But minus thirty-two.
-
The problems we're about to face
Are frightening, for sure.
And reading every line of code's
The only certain cure.
The only certain cure.
-
[key change, big finish]
-
There's not much time,
There's too much code.
(And Cobol-coders, few)
When the century is finished with,
We may be finished, too.
We may be finished, too.
-
Eight thousand years from now
I hope That things weren't left too late,
And people aren't then lamenting
Four digits for a date.
Four digits for a date.
