HORRORSCOPE (a new feature for Jan 2000)
by Lois

Jan 20 - Feb 18 Aquarius

Aquarians' ability to count and plan is low. Humor and creativity are the main points which make them stand out. Aquarius people are often chatterboxes and their phone lines are always busy.

Feb 19 - Mar 20 - Pisces

Pisces people are generally very unrealistic and their self-image is blurred. Thus, most posts by Pisces people stink, even though they thought everyone would shower them with congratulatory emails. (Note: NOT the opinion of Ye Editor)

#DIABETES
Hi I'm Daphne and I would like to announce a new support channel. It's #diabetes and it a support channel for anyone experiences the trials of living with diabetes be it themselves or a loved one.I opened it November 8th 1999 because I, too, am diabetic. I invite anyone who is interested to drop by.
#Norwich
#Norwich's old-time member and friendly op, Deano, who is also the Roving Reporter for the SLIRC Newsletter, spent some major time in the hospital, not allowed to eat, and begging for just a cup of coffee!!!! Luckily he is home now and feeling better. His friends all wish him a speedy recovery!
#BEAULAHLAND
Jamela and Sparhawk of #Beulahland hope for the year 2000 to be the happiest year of their lives: seems they met here on StarLink-IRC, and this past Christmas they became engaged to be married.

FOGWEB FOLLIES
A short column of made-up facts and non-information brought to you by your friendly neighborhood arachnid

Well, as kou can see, due to the diligence and skills of kour friendlk spider, the y2K problem was a non issue all over the world.

As we all know, it would have been LOTS worse if I hadn't personallk fixed all those bugs! Course this means I will have to nap more to make up for it... zzzzzz

On a more serious note, we actuallk DID have a k2k bug of sorts.. those who were on earlk the 1st mak have noticed that /time gave January 1 19100 .. not 2000. Now, while I'm sure we'll all be here 18,000 years from now (and still waiting for the good help to show up) .. it was a bit inaccurate.

Thanks to the diligent work of sinbad, g-force and our other admins, the problem was fixed in a few hours. kak US !! More follies to come in the round numbered kear of 2000 .. soon as I rest up. Happk chatting!

      GRANDMA'S ON THE INTERNET
(Contributed by Carol Smith of #just4fun)
You won't believe the nuts she's met
But what she'd really like to know
Is Where are those who quilt and sew
And do the things she likes to do?
She'd give them hints, and learn some too.
She used to be "scared" of a wee little mouse
Would scream if one ever got in the house.
Now she hugs one night and day
She'd rather cuddle it than stay
On the couch and watch T.V.
Her first love now is her P.C.
She'd like to see it all unfurled
So much to learn in this new world.
She could explore it from her chair
      But mostly, she plays solitaire
But that's okay she doesn't care
      About the weather in Zaire.
Windows were glass she'd wash and look through
Now they are programs to help us all view
The earth and the sea and the beautiful sky
A virus was something from which you could die
Now it's a nuisance that could spoil your day,
But it can be fixed and sent on it's way.
She served her time with diapers and dishes.
Now she can do whatever she wishes
And if that means staying up half the night
To point arrows at icons-that's really alright.
Abit was something you had little of.
Now it takes eight bytes to make the above
It's all so confusing, it makes her head ache.
A byte was something you take from a cake.
She's learning more about it now
Her four year old grandchild showed her how.

DR.SEUSS' COMPUTER ADVICE
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort, and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, then the socket packet pocket has an error to report. If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash, and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash, and your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash, then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash!
If the label on the cable on the table at your house, says the network is connected to the button on your mouse, but your packets want to tunnel on another protocol, that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall, and your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss, so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse, then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang, 'cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!
When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk, and the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk, then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM. Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom.
