Well with the pumpkin season upon us, theres not a lot happening. It SHOULD be advertised somewhere that your UNDER-APPRECIATED arachnid was given a monument by Debora! Of course, some other evil canadian people had to have THEIR own monument too, just to close the monument gap. But we all know who REALLY has the FIRST monument... and in case you forgot, its ME! Did you ever have one of those days? The round blue one did saturday. You see it was like this .. I went out to put the trash in the dumpster thingie
in the garage... WHICH IS ALL I WAS TRYING TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE !!!!!!!!!! Some days it just doesnt pay to get up..... Itsy

HOW TO BECOME INSTANTLY INVISIBLE Contributed by ellegon (#emerg_serv_lobby ) I was raised in a small town where everyone knew everyone and/or were related to each other. As the years went by, children grew up, families moved away, elders passed on, it was decided that we would hold an Oldtimers Reunion every year on the second Sat. of October in an attempt to keep the ties connected and pass on memories to the newest generations. I particulary liked these events because it gave me an opportunity to catch up on news from my cousins who i spent every waking hour with during my youth. And let me tell you there were lots of cousins. I noted with every passing year the new wrinkles, the gray hair, the bulges where the slim used to be, but through it all, we always knew each other because in our minds we were all still the same kids who climbed trees, had orange fights, got into trouble, went to school together, consoled each other when God took one of us home, which happened alot during the Viet Nam conflict. However, this time was different, which is the point of this story. As many of you know, I was finally sidelined from my career as a law enforcement officer of 18 1/2 years by an old back injury suffered in a line of duty accident years ago. As the time grew close for the reunion to be held I hesitated at the thought of having to stand, or sit on hard picnic bench's without support for my back. I felt sadness at the thought of missing it and missing seeing loved ones who I only get to see once a year, and the thought this may be the last time I would ever see a lot of them again, since we are not spring chickens. Fate has a way of messing up long term plans as you well know. My family knowing my quandry suggested I go in a wheel chair which would allow me the support I needed for a long day of festivities. With some reservations I agreed. We arrived, found our designated area, got set up, and with pillows under me, behind me, and my legs in a comfortable position sat beaming like a excited kid waiting for roving relatives to make the rounds. Within less than five minutes I became more and more shocked. Every one of them, many of which had to lean across me to hug my mother and brothers, did not even acknowledge my existence. The wheelchair had rendered me invisible. I spent the entire day having to trip, smack, or toss something at the people I had shared my entire youth with. I mentioned this to my mother and as she sat and watched, could not believe what she was seeing either. When I got them to notice me, I was hugged vigorously and apologized to because they "didn't see me", though I was bumped and shoved out of the way for them to get past me to other relatives, and this was how it went the entire day. I now have a better understanding of people who are stuck in a wheelchair for life and i promised myself this.. I will always acknowledge them first, even if i don't know them. Sitting in a wheelchair is a lonely and sad situation and does make one invisible.... *********************************************************** PERSPECTIVES WITH AGE I've learned that our dog doesn't want to eat my roccoli either. Age 7 I've learned that when I wave to people in the country, they stop what they are doing and wave back. Age 9 I've learned that just when I get my room the way I like it, Mom makes me clean it up again. Age 12 I've learned that if you want to cheer yourself up, you should try cheering someone else up. Age 14 I've learned that although it's hard to admit it, I'm secretly glad my parents are strict with me. Age 15 I've learned that silent company is often more healing than words of advice. Age 24 I've learned that brushing my child's hair is one of life's great pleasures. Age 26 I've learned that wherever I go, the world's worst drivers have followed me there. Age 29 I've learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it. Age 39 I've learned that the greater a person's sense of guilt, the greater his or her need to cast blame on others. Age 46 I've learned that motel mattresses are better on the side away from the phone. Age 50 I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you miss them terribly after they die. Age 53 I've learned that making a living is not the same thing as making a life. Age 58 I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw some things back. Age 64 I've learned that whenever I decide something with kindness, I usually make the right decision. Age 66 I've learned that it pays to believe in miracles. And to tell the truth, I've seen several. Age 75 I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one. Age 82 I've learned that I still have a lot to learn. Age 92 . |
