You are a true dreamer who is more concerned with intellectual concepts than with the possible material gains governing any given situation. Because of your adaptable nature and your unique powers of sympathy, you are welcomed by others wherever you go. Although you are apt to succumb to peer pressure because of your congenial nature, you will succeed in developing a positive personal character for yourself so long as you choose your friends carefully. Pisces are admired for their generosity and sensitive nature. They often make excellent business people, sales persons, and homemakers because of their honesty, sense of humor , and skill in genuine communication. They rarely fail to see a question from all sides.

HighWayLady of #SomeR50+ underwent back surgery a few weeks ago. Our thoughts are with her and hope for a very speedy recovery.

Wullie's wife, who is recovering from surgery, still needs our thoughts and prayers. She is home and is recovering but please still send some positive thoughts her way :)

NOLady of #40Something (and many other channels) will be moving to Florida at the beginning of March. She has made 2 promises 1) to keep her New Orleans Lady nick and 2) to make sure there will be NO hanging / pregnant / dimpled chads to be counted in the next election! Have a safe trip NOL and we hope you get online real quick once you get to your new home :)

Reminder: As some of you might know, there are other nets out there with the word 'starlink' in them. When telling your friends about what net you chat on -- PLEASE make sure you say StarLink-IRC.Org. And don't forget There is a 'quicklist' of servers at http://www.starlink-irc.org/serverlist.html

#Aloha, My room is #Ho_omaka which means Beginning in Hawaiian. And for it is my hope that people who are interested in the Huna way of life will attend classes that I am planning to hold either as a student or just as a person who wants to see if what I will be talking about. All are welcome. Huna is a way of life, not a religion, and can be incorporated into any belief system. It is simplicity, honesty, and truth in its simplest form. To leave you with a word from one of my teachers, Truth is simple, if it isnt simple it isnt truth.

#SPADE
#Spade is still alive and kicking but is still in need of support. As I said in last months newsletter,#Spade has been around for several years but used to be on Undernet.org. For Obvious reasons we decided to move and are happy to be on StarLink-IRC.
#Spade is a Depression Support Channel and its main purpose is to be here for people who suffer from Depression and wish to talk about it. Some times they even get the help they are looking for. I have been a Counselor for Depression in Alcoholics and Addicts, but I also believe that Living Experiences can't be beat when it comes to helping others who are, or have been Depressed.
#Spade is in need of more support. We have a few very good Channel Ops and even a few who just come by to talk. Sometimes they end up being quite helpful as well. So everyone is welcome. If you would like to be a part of #Spade, pleace feel free to visit us. If no one is there, someone will be soon. If I'm not around, you can email me at spade1a_2000@yahoo.com
Everyone is welcome on #Spade.

#CELTIC_CORNERS

Please stop in often and share music thoughts and just spend time with friends pop-ups are always welcome.
All ages are invited but special nights can be put in place if th need arises, like if users want an adults only night to let your hair down let me know
Our web page is up and will be edited soon and a very special thanks goes out to EXCITED who has been helping me with some graphics that will soon appear on the webpage. If you see her when the edited page is up please let her know how well she did. She does great work and we owe her so much thanks ..... THANKS EXCITED !!!! See everyone in #celtic_corners soon thanks

#THE^DRUID^GROVE
Hello to all frequent visitors to Starlink-IRC. I am ArchDruid, owner of a new channel called The Druid Grove. My purpose in creating this channel was to give all Pagans a place to chat and have fun. Now, I understand many of you have established beliefs of Pagans already. I want to make it clear that we are not demon-worshipping, blood-thirsty fanatics, but friendly, civil people who believe in a definite connection to the divine through nature. I am not here to disrupt the balance of things at Starlink, but to bring a Pagan influence and friendship into the community. I don't mean to be so serious about things, but I just wanted to get that straight before I got any criticism. Thank you very much. I hope to have a great stay here.
Bright Blessings, ArchDruid
#OLDRADIO
In February, 1894, Jack Benny (Benjamin Kubelski) was born on Valentine's Day in Waukegan IL. He celebrated his 39th birthday for many years on that day on his ever-popular radio comedy show.
February 1936, KWXZ Radio in Detroit, MI aired the first episode of a new superhero show called "The Green Hornet”. The main character, Brit Reid, (whose man-servant Kato aided in his crime-fighting), was the great nephew of John Reid, also known as the Lone Ranger, who first aired from the same radio station. (Thanks to Joe Mackey for this OTR information)
#OldRadio welcomes everyone interested in the radio programs from the “golden days of radio” for OTR Chat Thursdays, 8 PM Eastern. Its newest actor-member is Harlan Stone (Hal), who played Jughead on the “Archie Andrews” shows in NY, then became a director in later life. He started in radio at age 8 on the “Let's Pretend” programs.

FOGWEB FOLLIES
A short column of made-up facts and non-information brought to you by your friendly neighborhood arachnidspider

Well here it is, Canadian Flag Day (15th Feb).. and did YOU know that your average Canadian doesn't even KNOW about it ? Its true. So next time you see a canadian, wrap them in a flag and hand them a mirror! Some have been polling the grocery clerks at convenience stores to find out more but, as usual, these people just ARENT up to speed on legislative initiatives.

Obviously this is a plot by the canadian AND usa govt to keep the day SECRET from the population.. probably so they can work on invading the US using the FastCats (Vancouver political joke there)

On a lighter note, Bill moved to Harlem! But Hillary is still in DC. There's a mesage there but i have NO idea what it might be!

HAPPY VALENTINE FLAG DAY ( A new holiday i just made up)

LATE BULLETIN - NOT in the email version. You think YOUR local politicos are dumb? Washington DC Metro subway cars have a tendency to flip over and burn out but that's ok they've ordered new cars.. oh, wait, these ARE the new cars, and they're buying MORE of them. (I am not making this up .. wish I had .. but I didn't)

TECH TALK
Things to know
TEN TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CHANNEL
By Wullie

I am often asked by users and new channel owners, "How can I get people to visit my channel?" Here are some of my thoughts about the subject.

  • 1. The most important thing you must do is be there. Set a schedule of hours that the channel will be active and stick to it. Be friendly and cheerful with all who visit, remember that you are also a guest in their home, office or school. Be gentle with folks that are merely curious, but be firm about the purpose of your channel. You might suggest that they can find another channel that they may find more to their tastes, by typing /list .
  • 2. The name of your channel should clearly reflect what it is that you intend it be about. People will seldom visit unless the channel name attracts their interest.
  • 3. The channel topic line can help to inform potential visitors what the chat in your channel is for and about.
  • 4. On StarLink-IRC.org there is also a "welcome" message from CStar that can give your guests a greeting when they actually join the channel. This will be the first thing they see, so use it wisely. Give them a friendly message and perhaps the URL to your channel's homepage and/or the hours that your channel is going to be actively chatting. People are very busy, so if no one is home when they join, at least try to give them a time when someone is likely to be available
  • 5. A channel web page and web rings are excellent tools for folks to see what your channel and interests are. Try to create an informative homepage and perhaps join web rings that reflect the reason for your channel. StarLink-IRC.org has a web ring to help you get started. Try getting your channel url on the various search engines by listing your main subjects as keywords.
  • 6. Create a guest book on your homepage and check it often. Also get a blind e-mail account for people to reach you, so that you can reply to interested folks.
  • 7. Visit other folks websites that have similar interests, sign their guest books and let them know about you. (Be careful here... don't spam them, just let them know you share their interests).
  • 8. Some people may not be aware of IRC, so your web page is a good place to give links to a few chat clients like mIRC, PIRCH98 or IRCLE. At StarLink-IRC.org, we also have JAVA CHAT links that new folks can use to get connected from their browsers. Ask the staff in #Channels or #Terranova about this service for our users.
  • 9. Set the rules for acceptable behavior and language in your channel and put them on your web page. Be sure that your channel operators understand them and agree to enforce your rules.
  • 10. Be very careful about the users that you give access to as channel operators. They can make or break your channel by their behavior and attitudes. Ask for feedback from users about operator abuse.

I hope this helps answer some of the questions and gets your channel on the road to a long and successful run. Good Luck !

    Coke
Contributed by Ellie of #Scorps'Place and #Itsy
Just when you thought you knew everything....
    • 1.In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
    • 2.You can put a t-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.
    • 3.To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl....... Let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean.
    • 4.The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
    • 5.To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
    • 6.To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
    • 7.To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
    • 8.To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan; wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
    • 9.To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, And run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
  • FYI:
    • 1.The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It's pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.
    • 2.To carry Coca Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly Corrosive materials.
    • 3.The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years! Drink up!
