LETTERS AND NOTICES

Chattie must still be quite busy with her family's relocation, so NOLady is assuming the duties of Editor-in-Chief until she returns, and we hope it's soon.  We all miss her sorely!!
It is always a joy to receive submissions from our channel owners and users.  Thank you again for sending in articles for the very late October newsletter.  Please mention the newsletter and the Sunday night #Townhall meetings to the folks in your channels and encourage them to subscribe to the newsletter and to send in news of upcoming events, channel chatter, and the birthdays and anniversaries of their users.

CELEBRATIONS AND CALENDAR

While I'm at it, this is as good a time as any to remind everyone to COME TO THE #TOWNHALL MEETINGS!!  (Also, drag... I mean INVITE your channel's guests to attend!)  It's an informative time, with some of the sharpest minds in cyberspace passing on tidbits to help keep us and our computers safe in this world of online landmines such as viruses and spam bots!  It's also a great way to learn of happenings around our network, to get acquainted with folks from other channels, to share news, make comments, ask questions.  Please come!  The meetings are every Sunday night at 9:30 Eastern time.

Thanks to everyone for your patience during the times that the MountVernon server was offline due to power outages. There has been major flooding in Washington State and also in southern British Columbia so please keep all those affected by these storms in your thoughts and thanks to LarryC, admin of the mountvernon server, for keeping us up to date on all the problems in his area.

And congratulations to the SL-IRC staff for making sure that network connections and backups for servers and services (like our dear CStar) were available and brought online to keep disruptions to a minimum. (Itsy)

REMINDER: Clocks get turned back one hour this weekend (25/26 Oct)

COOKING ON THE WILD SIDE

by WildChild
Well, it's almost that time for our little ghost and goblins to be out, and then it will be time for Turkey Day and the big man in Red. Start sending in some of those favorite dishes that you cook up for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners or maybe some favorite snacks for the Family get together.
Thanks to NOLady of #40something (<---- see free advertising) for her Jambalaya recipe and to teedee of #30+Kickin`Back (<---- free advertising again) for her Nacho Beef Salad for family get togethers.
Please remember to send all recipes to cookingonthewildside@yahoo.com and make sure you put your nick and channel name in the email so you can get free advertising. Just  a note:  If you have sent in a recipe, don't worry.  I've been keeping them and they will be used in upcoming newsletters so make sure to please send them in. Thanks again and until next month let's keep Cookingonthewildside!

Nacho Beef Salad
1 1/2 - 2 pounds of ground beef (browned and well drained)
2 packages of taco seasoning mix
1 green pepper, 2 red peppers, 1 yellow pepper; all chopped but not too fine or too large
6 tomatoes ( large) - chopped
1/2 Spanish onion chopped
1/2 bottle of Catalina dressing
1 Large bag of Nacho cheese chips ( broken )

Brown meat well and drain.  While warm add taco seasoning mix.  Put in Tupperware and cover until time to put salad together.
Chop all vegetables and put in Tupperware until time to put salad together.
Break nacho chips into small pieces (not crumbs) and keep in bag until time to put salad together.  Just before serving mix beef, veggies, 1/2 bottle of dressing and nachos together.
If beef is too dry then add more dressing.

Don't put salad together until you are ready to eat!!!!

Jambalaya
Make a good hearty chicken stock by bringing to a boil the following:
Bag of chicken leg quarters
Two quartered onions
Three toes of garlic
Three chicken bullion cubes
Salt (to taste)
Parsley (about a tablespoon)
Cayenne pepper (three or four good dashes)
Water to cover the whole mess
Once the chicken is cooked, remove it, debone it, chunk it.  Then drain the stock and save 5 cups for the jambalaya (freeze the rest to make rice or mashed potatoes in the future... good stuff).
Slice two pounds of smoked sausage, dice one onion, mince one toe garlic.  Simmer these together until the seasoning is tender.  Add two cans of diced tomatoes and a tablespoon of sugar.  Simmer a few more minutes.  Add the chunked chicken and then the stock, a touch more salt and a dash parsley and a dash cayenne, then bring it to a good roaring boil.  Add two cups  rice, cover tightly, lower heat, and let it simmer about 45 minutes. Once or twice during this time gently FOLD (don't stir!) the mixture to avoid little crunchies of rice being left uncooked.

Serve it with hot french bread and a big salad... and enjoy!!!

If you google Fibrochat you'll find we're first on the list!
Mellie edits our #Fibrochat newsletter for us.  We almost didn't get it out this month.  The chocolate section is towards the end and she got stuck there for quite a little while!
It's been quite a month for this household.  Justin is on the mend but still going through a number of tests to determine just what's going on in his young body.   This whole process has been really reminiscent of all the testing I went through on my way to a fibro diagnosis.  I'm praying this kid has something a little easier to fix!  Meanwhile many of you are going through this same testing and my heart goes out to you.
Since we've all been through this I know you're going to understand when I tell you I'm spending a lot of my days sitting in waiting rooms reading books instead of chatting. We try to keep all our doctor's appointments in the afternoons so what I've finally figured out is I can't be in chat during the afternoons! lol. So here's my chat schedule. I'll be in during the mornings for coffee with you all and the late afternoons for the cocktail hour. I will also have a few evenings a week now that Justin is back to Taekwondo.  See you in chat!

We hold Open Style meetings every night at 9 p.m.and again at midnight Eastern Standard Time thus allowing all of our overseas guest a chance to
come and share with us here in the U.S.
ONE second at a time - For those who live a life of addiction, these words are  hope for a new life.  We understand the struggles one faces as they walk through life one second at a time trying to keep clean & sober.
With trust in our Higher Power all things are  possible, but when you need a friend to help you make it through the next second remember we're here to support you in your new life.

Yours Truly, Lord Wolf - AA Support

#12Steps_Alanon
Do you have a husband, partner, or loved one that is abusing alcohol or drugs?  I did ... I had two parents, a husband, a son and a step-daughter.  I always hoped that my married or family life would be that dream-come-true type of life -- then I found out what the opposite was?  What could I do that would stop them from what they were doing? How do I make them understand that not only are they killing themselves but they are hurting everyone around them so badly?
In conjunction with the #12steps room, we have opened up a #12steps_Alanon Chatroom which can help those around someone with an addiction how to recover from their addiction.  Our weekly closed Al-Anon Chatroom Meeting with others which are in the same spot you are?  Come to understand the AA or NA abuser a little better.  Come to learn the tools so you can feel better about yourself, as well as ways to begin to learn the various ways our loved one's addiction can make us feel terrible. So every Friday night at 9 until 10 PM. you can come our Chatroom and become part of our family. Ask those questions that have been bothering you.  Come talk with others that have been through it already or are going through it now.  We hopefully will have someone in the room to help anyone that comes into the room outside of our Friday Night Meeting.
For those of you who don't understand know what a closed meeting is, it is a meeting in which only those people who are not addicted or in recovery for addiction can come and share.  We will try to make sure that only family members around Alcoholic or the Drug Addicted will be allowed in the room.  All information in the Chatroom is confidential and will never be repeated outside of the chatroom.  We will ask that anyone attending will agree to keep any information confidential so the comfortable level can be just that -- comfortable for all who attend.
If you have any questions, please contact Sandi at alanon@funibiz.com if you have any concerns or questions.  Come on -- give us a try.  You might feel better than you have in a long time."
Peace, Love, Hope and Harmony
Sandi

WHO'S DOING WHAT

CONGRATULATIONS to GRANDPA Chiefy and his whole family!!  His first grandchild was born to his son, Tommy, on August 20, 2003.  Her name is Alexandra Paige and she's a little beauty!  (I suspect if you ask, he'll whip out his cyber wallet and show off her photos!)

Chattie and Palidin are safely in their new home and will hopefully be back online for the next edition of the newsletter.  As soon as they return, be certain to visit their channels, #30+Fun and #Trivia-Chat (which is trivia with an interesting, fun twist).  This co-editor will be VERY glad to have our editor back!!

FOGWEB FOLLIES
A short column of made-up facts and non-information brought to you by your friendly neighborhood arachnid

Once again there was a massive conspiracy on my birthday .. organized in advance by those evil canadians (that have been mentioned before.. ).  Fortunately, folks showed remarkable restraint and self control.  Mostly.
A few.
.. ok.. so the net is full of pack animals.. I was trying to be nice here.

At any rate, its going to be hard to come up with good costumes for halloween.. unlees you want to put on a mask and go as the governator.  Be sure only to visit houses in california since thats where its scariest.
California is always scary.  Never know if whatever is in the air there is going to escape and take over like maybe new york.  Hmm. n/m.   Time to consider migrating to Antarctica then !

Til turkey month, have a good weenie day !

TIP OF THE MONTH

No tips this Month.
Well, I'm sure there are tips.
But just not here.
They're somewhere else and we just don't know about them .. .
or they're a SECRET and we just aren't important enough to be told...

Or maybe there just aren't any.
It's just incredible the things we go through just to fill up space in the newsletter. If YOU sent in something I wouldn't have to do this !
You never take me anywhere anymore!

Wise Words
contributed by Amazing
A water bearer in China had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which he carried across his neck. One pot had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering Only one and a half pots full of water to his house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After 2 years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream... I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side of the path. Every day while we walk back, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."

Moral: Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are, and look for the good in them.
