Happy 2006 to each of you.  This is the finest advice for the new year I've seen so far:

Let it go for 2006
by T. D. Jakes

There are people who can walk away from you; and hear me when I tell you
this! When people can walk away from you: let them walk.

I don't want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving
you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to
you. I mean hang up the phone.

When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied
to anybody that left. The Bible said that, they came out from us that it
might be made manifest that they were not for us. For had they been of us,
no doubt they would have continued with us. [1 John 2:19]

People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not
joined to you, you can't make them stay. Let them go. And it doesn't mean
that they are a bad person it just means that their part in the story is
over.  And you've got to know when people's part in your story is over so
that you don't keep trying to raise the dead. You've got to know when
it's dead.
  • You've got to know when it's over. Let me tell you something. I've got the
  • gift of good-bye.  It's the tenth spiritual gift, I believe in good-bye.
  • It's not that I'm hateful, it's that I'm faithful, and I know whatever God
  • means for me to have He'll give it to me. And if it takes too much sweat I
  • don't need it. Stop begging people to stay. Let them go!!
  • If you are holding on to something that doesn't belong to you and was never
  • intended for your life, then you need to...LET IT GO!!!
  • If you are holding on to past hurts and pains ...LET IT GO!!!
  • If someone can't treat you right, love you back, and see your worth ...LET IT GO!!!
  • If someone has angered you ... LET IT GO!!!
  • If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge...LET IT GO!!!
  • If you are involved in a wrong relationship or addiction ... LET IT GO!!!
  • If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or talents ... LET IT GO!!!
  • If you have a bad attitude...LET IT GO!!!
  • If you keep judging others to make yourself feel better... LET IT GO!!!
  • If you're stuck in the past and God is trying to take you to a new level in Him... LET IT GO!!!
  • If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship....LET IT GO!!!
  • If  you   keep trying to help someone who  won't  even  try  to  help themselves...LET IT GO!!!
  • If you're feeling depressed and stressed.... LET IT GO!!!
  • If there is a particular situation that you are so used to handling yourself and God is saying "take your hands off of it," then you need to... LET IT GO!!!
  • Let the past be the past. Forget the former things. GOD is doing a new thing for 2006 !!! LET IT GO!!! Get Right or Get Left... Think about it, and then LET IT GO!!!

Special Submission from Andrew
2005 Nanaimo Bar Challenge

As many of you are aware earlier in the year I conducted the Great Corn Cook-off of 2005.  During the holidays this year I conducted another taste test - this time concerning Nanaimo Bars.  For those of you not in the know, consult one of our resident Canadians.

Competitors:
a) Amazing's Amazing Nanaimo Bars
b) Costco's Nanaimo Bars

The analysis was performed by a panel of three independent judges, one of which was myself.  I will admit that I had a bias toward the Costco Nanaimo Bars as I have enjoyed them very much in the past and had never sampled Amazing's cooking before.

The results have been tabulated and the results were unanimous:

Winner: Amazing's Amazing Nanaimo Bars
Loser: Costco's Nanaimo Bars

Amazing's Amazing Nanaimo Bars have set a new standard.

Thank you to MikeChat and TooShy for the WONDERFUL Christmas color show that was held in #Townhall on Sunday, Dec 18th. Over 50 users were there to enjoy it!

Treecat's First Christmas in Heaven

I see the countless Christmas trees
around the world below with tiny lights,
like Heaven's stars,
reflecting on the snow.

The sight is so spectacular,
please wipe away the tear,
For I am spending Christmas
with my Lord this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs
that people hold so dear,
but the sounds of music can't compare
with the Christmas choir up here.

I have no words to tell you,
the joy their voices bring
For it is beyond description,
to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me,
I see the pain inside your heart,
But I am not so far away,
we really aren't apart.

So be happy for me, dear ones,
you know I hold you dear,
And be glad I'm spending Christmas
with my Lord this year.

I sent you each a special gift,
from my heavenly home above.
I send you each a memory
of my undying love.

After all, love is a gift
more precious than gold,
It was always most important
in stories told.

Please love and keep each other,
as my Father said to do.
For I can't count the blessings
or love He has for each of you.

Do you really know how to forward e-mails? 50% of us do; 50% do NOT. Do you wonder why you get viruses or junk mail? Do you hate it? Every time you forward an e-mail there is information left over from the people who got the message before you, namely their e-mail address & names. As these messages get forwarded along, the list of addresses builds, and builds, and builds, and all it takes is for some poor sap to get a virus, and his or her computer can send that virus to every E-mail address that has come across his computer. Or, someone can take all of those addresses and sell them or send junk mail to them in the hopes that you will go to the site and he will make five cents for each hit. That's right, all of that inconvenience over a nickel! How do you stop it? Well, there are two easy steps:

(1) When you forward an e-mail, DELETE all of the other addresses that appear in the BODY of the message. That's right, DELETE them. Highlight them and delete them, backspace them, cut them, whatever it is you know how to do. It only takes a second. IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW THEN ASK SOMEONE WHO DOES. You MUST click the "Forward" button first and then you will have full editing capabilities against the body and headers of the message.

(2) Whenever you send an e-mail to more than one person,  Do not use the To: or Cc: column for adding e-mail addresses. Always use the BCC: (blind carbon copy) column for listing the e-mail addresses. This way the people you send to an e-mail to can only see their own e-mail address. If you don't see your BCC: option click on where it says To: your address list will appear. Highlight the address and choose BCC: and that's it, it's that easy. When you send to BCC: your message will automatically say "Undisclosed Recipients" in the "TO:" field of the people who receive it.

Have you ever gotten an e-mail that is a petition? (any kind, pity, health, jokes, charity, religious, etc.) It states a position and asks you to add your name and address and to forward it to 10 or 15 people or your entire address book. That e-mail can be forwarded on and on and can collect thousands of names and e-mail addresses. A FACT: That completed petition is actually worth a few bucks to a professional spammer because of the wealth of valid names and email addresses contained therein. If you want to support the petition, send it as your own personal letter to the intended recipient. Your position may carry more weight as a personal letter than a laundry list of names and email addresses on a petition.

Also remember, no one is going to send you a check merely because you forwarded an e-mail to 5, 12, 18 or 36 friends and relatives. AOL, MSN, Microsoft, Applebee's, McDonald's DOES NOT pay money for you to forward e-mails. Put the website below into your favorites list and the next time you get one of these spam-type e-mails and before you forward it to just one other person, check and see if it's a legitimate e-mail. It only takes a minute or two. Go to this website and I'll bet you find it listed there as a HOAX E-MAIL..... There are other similar sites that you can use but this is a good one to start with.

Creamed Chicken and Biscuits
1/2 large onion
1 1/2 teaspoons butter
4 cups chopped cooked chicken
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped pimiento
1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
   divided
6 frozen biscuits thawed

Preheat over to 350. Grease the bottom and sides of an 11x7 inch baking dish.
Chop onion. Heat butter in a small nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until melted. Saute onion until tender.
Combine onion, chicken, soup, sour cream, milk and pimiento in a medium bowl and mix well.
Spoon mixture into prepared baking dish. Bake for 15 minutes.
Remove from oven.
Sprinkle baked layer with 3/4 cup of the cheddar. Arrange biscuits in single layer over top. Sprinkle with remaining cheddar.
Return to oven and bake until biscuits are golden brown and the sauce is bubbly, about 20 minutes longer.
Serve hot!
----------------
Note:
I can't eat onions so I've left those out. Plus I'm not fond of pimientos so I put cooked carrots in place of those. I chop one large carrot up and cook it in some water until tender. Then I add that in with all the other stuff when it's time to combine.
We love it this way.
One more thing is I cut down on the number of biscuits to 4 in one of those small square glass baking dishes. Since we only have dinner for 2. It's awesome and works out fine.

Dad's Vegetable Soup
Cook Meat on top of stove in enough water to cover it and let cool or keep left over meat

Now easy part dump all cans into water that meat was cooked in and let cook for about
30 minutes then dice couple potatoes and put in handful of macaroni and hand full of rice.

potatoes are tender and enjoy

The Constant Princess
by Philippa Gregory
ISBN: 074327248X
Touchstone Books
Published December 2005
Hardcover, $24.95 (393p)

I am somewhat addicted to online trivia and questions about Queen Isabella of Spain; Catalina, Princess of Wales and Spain; English Prince Arthur; Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII frequently pop up. While you learn the answers eventually, a sense of the order of history is not so apparent. When I had a chance to read this book, an enormous amount of organization fell into place.  A time line established itself and, apart from the gained historical knowledge, I learned a great deal about these names on a trivia game screen and how their lives intertwined.

Catalina was the youngest daughter of Queen Isabella of Spain. She was the Princess of Wales and betrothed at 3 or 4 years old to Arthur, the oldest son of King Henry VII of England. This historical novel, written by a New York Times Best Selling List author, begins when Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand are attempting to overthrow the Moors and take the Alhambra Palace in southern Spain. Isabella dominates Catalina and imprints on her the qualities that made Catalina one of the most respected and feared monarchs in 16th century Europe.

Gregory uses "diary entries" made by Catalina to cement her story together. (Remember, this IS fiction so she is allowed.)  The narrative in the book is extremely believable and probably very much on target with reality. Many throughout history have wondered whether the marriage between the ill-fated Catalina, (later to become Queen Katharine to King Henry VIII), and Arthur, who died at the age of seventeen, was actually consummated. Gregory postulates that the marriage was consummated and the teenagers were inseparable lovers, together nightly until Arthur died. In this version of history, Catalina is totally dedicated to Arthur and, on his deathbed, promises to fulfill his dying wish that she marry his younger brother Henry, lying to him that their marriage never had been consummated and that she is still pure.

Gregory vividly recreates the court of the Tudors as she intertwines historical facts with her own intuitions about people and events from the past. She turns the pious and dull Katherine of Aragon of the history books into a vibrant female warrior who will do anything to achieve her aim  even if it means telling the greatest lie.

I do not often read historical novels much but this one impresses me to make more room in my reading time for this kind of literature. Gregory writes in a compelling manner and is very skillfully creative and intuitive. Give this one a read - it will not surprise me to see it make the New York Times Best Sellers List.

PETS AND PESTS         Critters   by Momma
If you have questions, interesting facts or suggestions, other notable news concerning pets and pests, please submit them to the newsletter with Pets and Pests in the subject line

On Dec.21 of 2005, Diamond Pet Foods issued a recall of certain brands of dog and cat foods due to reports of several dozen dogs becoming ill. They feared that the pet foods might have been contaminated with Aflatoxin. Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring toxic chemical by-product from the growth of the fungus Aspergillus flavus, on corn and other crops. The fungus develops on crops during years with severe high temperature stress and drought.  By Dec. 23, it was confirmed that 3 dogs had died from ingesting Aflatoxin, and that it came from the plant in Gaston, SC. Unfortunately the animal death total rose to 76 confirmed cases by Jan. 9, 2006. It has been suggested that the total could be even higher, but either not reported or misdiagnosed. The following is a list of brands that have been recalled, as well as a list of states where the recall has been in affect. Brands:
Diamond Low Fat Dog Food
Diamond Hi-Energy Dog Food
Diamond Maintenance Dog Food
Diamond Performance Dog Food
Diamond Premium Adult Dog Food
Diamond Puppy Food
Diamond Maintenance Cat Food
Diamond Professional Cat Food
Country Value Puppy
Country Value Adult Dog
Country Value High Energy Dog
Country Value Adult Cat Food
Professional Chicken & Rice Senior Dog Food
Professional Reduced Fat Chicken & Rice Dog Food
Professional Adult Dog Food
Professional Large-Breed Puppy Food
Professional Puppy Food
Professional Reduced Fat Cat Food
Professional Adult Cat Food
States:
Alabama Connecticut Delaware Florida Georgia Kentucky (eastern) Maine Maryland Massachusetts Mississippi New Hampshire New Jersey New York North Carolina Ohio Pennsylvania Rhode Island South Carolina Tennessee West Virginia Vermont Virginia

I have checked with local vets in Ontario Canada, and although Diamond Pet Foods are imported to Canada, none of the tainted foods came here. Those in other countries that also import these brands should have a list as to what ones are being recalled. If you are unsure, then contact your vet.
South Carolina, as well as the US Federal government are investigating the animal deaths, as well as the conditions that lead to the contamination.

At the time all of this was taking place in the news, I personally was training with a large pet food company in pet nutrition. I have a fancy title, Pet Nutrition Sales Advisor. I did in fact train with a pet nutritionist form this large company, and I do advise on the store level.
Although it IS my job to promote this brand of pet food, that is not what I am doing here. I will however bring something to the reader's attention.

Cats and dogs are carnivores, they eat meat. When purchasing kibbled foods for your pet, you should be reading the labels, the same as you would when purchasing groceries for your children. Reading the amounts of protein, fibre and such is fine, but DO check ingredients to see where these levels come from.
Protein should be the FIRST ingredient, and that would be meat. Either chicken, beef or lamb. Meat by-products should not be the first ingredient. Neither should 'ground yellow corn', corn glutens, or wheat flours and glutens. These are fillers, and of very little nutritional value to your pet. These ingredients are why you are 'scooping' in the yard and litter box more often.

Your pet does need carbs, to help level blood sugars. These are in kibbled foods as processed cornmeal, etc., and should be much further down on the list of ingredients. As a pet owner, I thought I knew what I was feeding my dogs and cats. I fell for media ads that said I should feed a certain food for optimum health benefits. Isn't it strange how we will read labels for our own food consumption and not for our beloved four-legged family members? Just a thought.......

foo! FOGWEB FOLLIES
A short column of made-up facts and non-information
...brought to you by your friendly neighborhood arachnid

Here we are for the first follies of  2006 -

The bad news is your intrepid blue one has to come up with something weirder than New Orleans politicos .. and that's a trick.

However.. it has been reported by one of the follies west coast rats that Amazing watches pro wrestling on TV while online.  Allegedly it was "a relative" watching it and it just HAPPENED to be on at the time.  Of course we all know that is true.  Along with checks, mail, and dogs and homework.

Hey its not much but its' been a SLOW follies month !

Til next time...

I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.

Reporters interviewing a 104-year-old woman: "And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?" the reporter asked. She simply replied, "No peer pressure."

The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs.

I've sure gotten old.! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees. Fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I'm half  blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation; hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But, thank God, I still have my driver's license

An elderly woman decided to prepare her will and told her preacher she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Wal-Mart. "Wal-Mart?" the preacher exclaimed. "Why Wal-Mart?" "Then I'll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week."

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Know how to prevent sagging? Just eat till the wrinkles fill out.

I'm getting into swing dancing. Not on purpose. Some parts of my body are just prone to swinging.

It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffeemaker

These days about half the stuff in my shopping cart says, "For fast relief."

Don 't think of it as getting hot flashes. Think of it as your inner child playing with matches.

Don't let aging get you down. It's too hard to get back up.!

Remember: You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing.

THE SENILITY PRAYER : Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the
eyesight to tell the difference.

Now, I think you're supposed to send this to 5 or 6, maybe 10. Oh just, send it to a bunch of your friends if you can remember who they are.

Friendship
Of all the friends I've ever met,
You're the one I won't forget.
And if I die before you do
I'll go to heaven and wait for you
I'll give the angels back their wings
And risk the loss of everything
Just to prove my friendship is true.

Cleaning Poem
I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess.
He asked if I'd been 'puting,
And I had to answer "yes."

He told me to get off my butt
And tidy up the house.
And so I started cleaning up...
The smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and shined the topside.
That really did the trick...
I was just admiring my work...
I didn't mean to 'click.'

But click, I did, and oops I found
A real absorbing site
That I got SO way into...
I was into it all night.
<<Sigh>>

Nothing's changed except my mouse
It's very, very shiny.
I guess my house will stay a mess...
While I sit here on my hiney.

Thanks once again to those who send in articles. Please encourage your channel folks to send in important dates for the month, channel chatter, and general news!  It shows our network's sense of continuity when we can share these events with those outside the channels we normally visit. Our network is special in the way channels support and and encourage each other like a community. For those newer to our community, our Sunday evening #Townhall meetings are an excellent opportunity to come and meet other folks that we would not normally encounter. Come join us for these meetings (okay, not so much a meeting as a block party with the occasional announcement, eduacational presentation, or sometimes even guest speakers on interesting subjects.  Join us there when you can.
