There is a new potential StarLink-IRCer...Wullie had a new grandson, Johnathan, botn December 4th. That makes grandchild number five for lucky Wullie! Kookum of #1 is finally at home after her second major heart surgery, and is busy sending out her jokes every night. She reports that the second man involved in the killing of her son has been sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without chance of parole. The first man was given the same sentence in October. Gyrene of #norwich is looking forward to a vacation the week after Christmas in the Poconos and asks that we all send snow his way so he can get in some snowmobiling and snowboarding. Thanks to TooShy, MikeChat and #mirc_colors for putting on another great color show. This time it was a Christmas color show held on Dec 5th. At one point there were 58 users in the channel, and an encore was held for another 40 users. Everyone was so impressed that they wanted to have it shown again, which TooShy and MikeChat agreed to do on Dec 17th. Many thanks again from StarLink-IRC for all yOur hard work. It has been greatly appreciated. Minn-Joe of Las Vegas (#norwich) has returned from his 25-day trip to Australia, declaring that trip "the best!". You can see pictures of him feeding baby kangaroos on his home page: http://www.wizard.com/~jraymond/ His tour guide says, "It is only time to go home when you start looking like your passport!" Ant18 in NZ (#norwich) recently made a business trip to Switzerland, Budapest, Brussels and Frankfurt. Due to lots of snow and many hours in the airport in Frankfurt, she took a roundabout way back to NZ, via Chicago and Los Angeles! Sinbad (of no fixed address) became a grandad (again). Congrats!
Somebody Get a File and Saw Dept. There is a malicious rumor going about that an unnamed op managed to lock themselves out of their own channel. Tis suspected that the person (known here as chee^H^H ) fell into a trap generally reserved for newbies or server admins. There was a cute piece here about db. It was removed. Fickle Follies: Well, this reporter is sad to say the hotsy totsy thing between #crittercat and #just4fun seems to have cooled off. No one is talking, but it has been awful hard to get into #crittercat and #babyboomers some nights .. so one just wonders exactly WHAT is going on. If i find out you can bet you wont read it here (we are a family net .. although, well, you know, you could read that a couple ways ... ) Sources insist there is NO truth to the fact that one of the ops in a long standing channel has won huge amounts in the lottery and is giving out giant chunks of cash if you message them 500 times with the magic word. Don't know who it is? Well, theres one way to find out ..... And since this is the holiday season, everyone needs to pick out gifts .. once again, Itsy MegaIndustries, Inc (IMI) rises to the occasion by providing a way to separate you from your money, er, to provide that PERFECT gift for the person who has everything... The IMI (pat pending) ULTRA LiteWeight Keyboard Frame .. this is the ONE product you just MUST have. Using space age technology, the ULWKF is made of powdered aluminum and magnesium for weight savings. Hmmm.. theres another name for that mix .. I just cant seem to remember... Til next time, have a happy holiday! Oh.. now i remember.. thermite. Powdered aluminum and magnesium is thermiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite *whoumph*
SOLITAIRE, ANYONE? Check out a site where you can play Tournament Solitaire every day. The Skinner boys (willco, deano and sharkie), manage to win easily over the other players. If you want to join these cardsharks, go to http://www.trwest.com/games/sol.htm Do not put your name and info in until the cards turn up, and the cards are slow at the beginning but pick up later on. There are three types of Solitaire to play, with instructions, and you can play three games of each kind. Tournament and Random Play can be chosen. If you need any other help, contact lois@chatlink.com, who can help you do anything but win! CHRISTMAS ON THE WEB There are hundreds of sites, offering you Christmas crafts, recipes, things to keep the kiddies busy, places to write to Santa Claus, home decorating, Christmas midis and many others, including a site which tracks Santa's trip on Christmas Eve via videocam! Just type into your search engine "christmas" and you'll be surprised what shows up! Have you ever had anyone tell you that your gravy was like the stuff they paint on the aircraft carrier decks? Well, you can cure all that before Christmas dinner by checking out the Gravy page at http://food.epicurious.com/b_ba/b02_class/gravy/gravy.html Even if you don't plan to have Spam for your
Christmas dinner, here is a page designed to give you some laughs at the
expense of Spam in a Can: http://www.cusd.claremont.edu/~mrosenbl/spam.html
(And remember, holiday fat grams don't count because of the high nostalgia content!)
SAFE IRC-ING: A class on Safe IRC-ing was held in #Townhall on Monday, December 14th. A big thanks to Wullie, chief301, Lt_Ed and Itsy for a job well done in helping the users understand what "safe" IRC-ing is all about. The text of the class is available on the webpage at www.starlink-irc.org/index.docs.html. It was great to see so many users come to the class and particpate in the question and answer period at the end. Regular

BACK ORIFICE TROJAN HORSE There have been many people on StarLink-IRC who have helped users in getting rid of some of the malicious files that have been dcc'd to them. We would like to thank each and every one who has helped. Also, there are lots of webpages that have help on eliminating these files. Just do a search for "back orifice". Important: If you happen to have Auto-Get enabled in your DCC/Options...please turn it OFF. There are two people that I have called on in these situations to help users and I would like to thank Whobear and Wullie for always helping when asked and for being so very patient with users who have accidentally received hese files. Thanks, guys!!
---- A MICROSOFT CHRISTMAS ---- 'Twas the night before Christmas, The stockings were hung by the modem with care
PageMaker for Billy, and Quicken for Dan, After centuries of a life that was simple and
spare, No more dolls or toy soldiers or little toy drums
(ahem - pardon me) More rapid than eagles the competitors came, It is Microsoft's SANTA that the kids can't resist,
Get 'em young, keep 'em long, is Microsoft's scheme,
And Mama in her 'kerchief and I in my cap, And there on the screen was a smiling Bill Gates

THE TWELVE GIFTS OF CHRISTMAS On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me A Japanese transistor radio. On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me Green polka-dot pajamas, And a Japanese transistor radio. (It's a Nakashuma.) On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me A calendar book with the name of my insurance man, Green polka-dot pajamas, And a Japanese transistor radio. (It's the Mark IV model. That's the one that's discontinued.) On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me A simulated alligator wallet, A calendar book with the name of my insurance man, Green polka-dot pajamas, And a Japanese transistor radio. (And it comes in a leatherette case with holes in it, so you can listen right through the case.) On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me A statue of a lady, with a clock where her stomach ought to be, A simulated alligator wallet, A calendar book with the name of my insurance man, Green polka-dot pajamas, And a Japanese transistor radio. (And it has a wire with a thing on one end that you can stick in your ear, and a thing on the other end that you can't stick anywhere, because it's bent.) On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me A hammered aluminum nutcracker, And all that other stuff, And a Japanese transistor radio. On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me A pink satin pillow that says San Diego, with fringe all around it, And all that other stuff, And a Japanese transistor radio. On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me An indoor plastic birdbath, And all that other stuff, And a Japanese transistor radio. On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me A pair of teakwood shower clogs, And a Japanese transistor radio. On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me A chromium combination manicure scissors and cigarette lighter, And a Japanese transistor radio. On the eleventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me An automatic vegetable slicer that works when you see it on television, but not when you get it home, And a Japanese transistor radio. On the twelfth day of Christmas, although it may seem strange, On the twelfth day of Christmas, I'm going to exchange: An automatic vegetable slicer that works when you see it on television, but not when you get it home, A chromium combination manicure scissors and cigarette lighter, A pair of teakwood shower clogs, An indoor plastic birdbath, A pink satin pillow that says San Diego, with fringe all around it, A hammered aluminum nutcracker, A statue of a lady, with a clock where her stomach ought to be, A simulated alligator wallet, A calendar book with the name of my insurance man, Green polka-dot pajamas, And a Japanese transistor radio.
