Well here we are.. end of the millenium (not really, its 2001, but its the round number millenium) and the last follies for years beginning with 19. We have a few new refugees from talkcity and dalnet, and the way things are going, your intrepid spider expects to see even more as we go into 2000 .. sooner or later everybody finds us! Now if they would just pay the transfer fees.... Speaking of cash .. all of you with channels should know that according to my accounting software, you owe back rent since 1/1/1900.. so PAY UP. I need the money for my y2k survivalist refuge out in the wilds of Honolulu. (YOU go hide in Montana, I'm going somewhere the weather is nice.)

...6 percent say it's 2001
...and 87 percent think the other 13 percent need to get a life.

When does the new millenium really begin? Lets look at some facts. We are in the 20th century but it's 1999, so that would mean the first century started in the year one and as a century is 100 years, it ended in the year 100 and a millenium is one thousand years, so the first millenium went for the year one through the year 1000. There is no year zero, we have a 1 B.C. and a 1 A.D. By common logic the year 2000 is the last year of the 20th century and the 21st century or the third millenium begins on 1/1/2001 at 12:00.01 A.M. The year 2000 is nothing more than when we were kids, sitting in the back seat of our fathers Rambler station wagon, looking over his shoulder as the odometer rolled over another thousand miles (geez, did I just age myself?).

So why the big hype about the millenium a year early? Take a look who is doing all the talking about the millenium, the media and advertisers, who will make a profit because we believe what the media tells us. Anyone care to bet that come next year, the media starts lining up experts to tell us that the millenium begins in the year 2001 and the advertisement hype starts all over.

So remember the facts, there was no year zero, only 99 years have gone by in the 20th century and 999 years in the 2nd millenium. Enjoy watching the odometer rolling over, that is truly a once in a life time event but don't buy into the media hype, save your money for next year and remember Y2K has nothing to do with the millenium, it's only a programming error. Have a safe and happy holiday season.
