FROM THE EDITOR

This month brings to us great sadness.  As most of you know Chiefy's precious ten week old granddaughter passed away on November 13th.  Alexandra Paige was a gift that was with us for so very short a time.  So many of our StarLink-IRC family expressed their friendship and compassion in so many wondrous ways to Chiefy and his family.  It has been overwhelming to see how good hearted our folks are in this dear cyber community.
Chiefy asked that we include this message from him.

CELEBRATIONS AND CALENDAR
Thanks once again to those who sent in articles for November's newsletter.  Please encourage your channel owners and other guests to send in their important dates for the month, channel chatter, and general noteworthy news!  It really gives our network a stronger sense of continuity when we can share these events with those outside the channels we normally visit.  One of the things I have always cherished about our network is the way channels support and visit and encourage other channels rather than stooping to the pettiness of competition and exclusion and such.  That's just another testament to the character of our community!  If you are as busy as I am, you don't always have the time to get out and visit other channels.  Our Sunday evening #Townhall meetings are an excellent opportunity to come and meet other folks that we would not normally chat with or get to know.  Come join us for these meetings which are often informative and always fun.  We usually have refreshments, too!  But you all know how that  goes with Itsy around.... not even the platters are left by the time everyone gets there!!

#Townhall meetings are every Sunday night at 9:30 Eastern time.

November's gemstone is Topaz, the symbol of truth; flower is Chrysanthemum.
December's gemstone is Turquoise, the symbol of innocence; flower is Narcissus.

Rutabaga Puff
1          large rutabaga (about 3 lb.)
2          eggs, beaten
3          tbs. flour
3          tbs. butter
1          tbs. brown sugar
1          tsp. salt
¼         tsp. pepper
¼         tsp. nutmeg
1          tsp. baking powder
¼         cup finely chopped walnuts
Peel rutabaga and cut into 1” cubes
Boil in salted water 20-30 minutes or until just tender, then drain well.
Combine rutabaga, eggs, flour, 2 tbs. butter, brown sugar, salt, pepper and nutmeg; process until smooth.
Spoon mixture into a 1.5L buttered casserole; stir in baking powder until thoroughly combined.
Melt remaining butter; stir in walnuts.  Sprinkle walnuts over top of casserole and bake in 400°F oven 15 minutes; reduce temperature to 375°F and bake 15 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.

These are fast and easy to make and are great for the holiday season!
Chocolate Chip Cheese Bars
1 tube (18 ounces) refrigerated choc chip cookie dough
OR
2 cups of your favorite choc chip cookie dough
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat cream cheese, sugar and egg together in a mixing bowl. Put it in the fridge.
Grease 8-in square baking pan. Press half of the cookie dough (1 cup) onto the bottom of the pan. I found it easiest to use my hands for this as forks and spoons seemed to lift the dough
from the greased pan.
Spread the cream cheese mixture on top of the cookie dough. Crumble the remaining choc chip cookie dough on top of the cream cheese mixture.
Bake in 350 degree oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
Let cool and refrigerate. After it has been refrigerated, it is easier to cut.
Enjoy!

FOGWEB FOLLIES
A short column of made-up facts and non-information brought to you by your friendly neighborhood arachnid

Here we are only 375 days til Thanksgiving .. (the next one, this one is already here so it's too late.)
Be sure to try the deep fried cajun style turkey for a change.  Get one from NOLady, or better yet, just drop in for the holidays and stay a while.  Til, say, 2038.  Tell her Amazing sent you!

From the I'm Not Making This Up file:

DON'T deep fry turkeys in propane fired deep fryers on a wooden deck !! ( some idiot around here did that .. burned down his whole house... I'm not making that up.  I feel sorry for the guy, but sheesh.  Flaming oil, wood deck, wood house.. duh. Prolly runs his charcoal bbq in the attic.

Course you could deep fry a snowman.  That would get you on Emeril's cooking show.  Or Martha's.  Maybe thats what her problem is.. they said stock tip and she gave somebody an idea for chicken soup?
(When her defense team pays me for that strategy, I'll share.)
honest.
really.

It's Christmas.. Would I lie ??

Well, I'm sure there are tips.

They're somewhere else and we just don't know about them .. .

Or maybe there just aren't any.
It's just incredible the things we go through just to fill up space in the newsletter. If YOU sent in something I wouldn't have to do this !
You never take me anywhere anymore!

"Recently a crisis of unjust measure struck my family, with the loss of our 2 1/2 month old granddaughter.  Tonight as the trial of dealing with our grief in public ends and our private thoughts begin, I have to turn and thank those in my extended family who went out of their way to be there for me.
I have heard the expression on IRC real life and cyber life, and while I agree in most cases both exist, I had a great deal of comfort support and personal friendship during this experience that helped me to deal with my personal thoughts and feelings.
To those that reached out in thought and prayer, my thanks and undying love.  To those who went the extra mile to walk with me in my shoes these past few days I can't begin to express how I feel and I only hope that if any of you in either case should ever need me in a time of trial I can somehow come close to measuring up to what you have given my family and me."

Laughter is good medicine!
Thanks to Itsy (and to ItsyDad) for these!

GOD'S PLAN

It all started out so simply....

God covered the earth with broccoli and cauliflower and spinach, green and yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives.

Then using God's bountiful gifts, Satan created Ben and Jerry's and Krispy Kreme.
And Satan said, "You want hot fudge with that?"
And Man said "Yes!" and Woman said, "I'll have another with sprinkles."
And lo they gained 10 pounds.

And God created the healthful yogurt that Woman might keep the figure that Man found so fair.

And Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat, and sugar from the cane, and combined them.
And Woman went from size 2 to size 14.

So God said, "Try my fresh green garden salad."

And Satan presented crumbled Bleu Cheese dressing and garlic toast on the side.
And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast.

God then said, "I have sent you heart healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them."

And Satan brought forth deep fried coconut shrimp, butter dipped lobster chunks and chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter.
And Man's cholesterol went through the roof.

God then brought forth running shoes so that his Children might lose those extra pounds.

And Satan came forth with a cable TV with remote control so Man would  not have to toil changing the channels.
And man and woman laughed and cried before the flickering light and started wearing stretch jogging suits.

Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and brimming with potassium and good nutrition.

Then Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them in animal fats and added copious quantities of salt.
And Man put on more pounds.

God then gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite.

And Satan created McDonald's and the 99-cent double cheeseburger.
Then Lucifer said, "You want fries with that?"
Man replied, "Yes! And supersize 'em!"
And Satan said "It is good."

And Man went into cardiac arrest.

God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery.

And Satan created HMOs.

BLONDE PILOT

A blonde pilot decided she wanted to learn how to fly a helicopter. She went to the airport, but the only one available was a solo-helicopter.  The Instructor figured he could let her go up alone since she was already a pilot for small planes and he could instruct her via radio So up the blonde went.

She reached 1,000 feet and everything was going smoothly.

She reached 2,000 feet.  The blonde and the Instructor kept talking  via radio.  Everything was running smoothly.

At 3,000 feet the helicopter suddenly came down quickly!  It skimmed the top of some trees and crash landed in he woods.  The Instructor jumped into  his jeep and rushed out to see if the blonde was okay.

As he reached the edge of the woods, the blonde was walking out.
"What happened?" the Instructor asked.

"All as going so well until you  reached 3,000 feet.  What happened then?"

"Well," began the blonde, "I got cold. So I turned off the ceiling fan.

HEMLINES
When short hemlines came back into fashion, I dug an old miniskirt out of my closet. I tried it on, but couldn't figure out what to do with my other leg.

SENIOR DRIVING
As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang.
Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him,
"Herman, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77. Please be careful!"
"Hell," said Herman,
"It's not just one car. It's hundreds of them!"
===================================================
CHOCOLATE IS A VEGETABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chocolate is a Vegetable
Chocolate is derived from cocoa beans.
Bean = vegetable.
Sugar is derived from either sugar cane or sugar BEETS.
Both of them are plants, in the vegetable category.
Thus, chocolate is a vegetable.
To go one step further, chocolate candy bars also contain milk, which is dairy.
So candy bars are a health food.
Chocolate-covered raisins, cherries, orange slices and strawberries all count as fruit, so eat as many as you want.

Remember - - - "STRESSED"
spelled backward is "DESSERTS""

A Husband Knows?

While attending a marriage seminar on communication, Keith and his wife Carolyn listened to the instructor declare,
"It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other."
He addressed the men,
"Can you describe your wife's favorite flower?"

Keith leaned over, touched Carolyn's arm gently and whispered,
"Pillsbury, All-purpose, isn't it honey?"

And thus began Keith's life of celibacy.

A man went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a very secluded, rural area of the state.
After spending the night, his grandfather prepared breakfast for him consisting of eggs and bacon.
He noticed a film-like substance on his plate, so he questioned his grandfather, "Are these plates clean?"
His grandfather replied, "Those plates are as clean as cold water can get them, so go on and finish your meal."
That afternoon, while eating the hamburgers his grandfather made for lunch, he noticed tiny specks around the edge of his plate, and a substance that looked like dried egg yokes. So he asked again, " Are you sure these plates are clean?"
Without looking up from his hamburger, the grandfather says,
"I told you before, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them.
Now don't ask me about it anymore!"
Later that afternoon, as he was on his way out to get the paper, he dog started to growl and wouldn't let him pass.
"Grandfather, your dog won't let me out."
Without diverting his attention from the exciting football game his grandfather shouted
"Coldwater....., move!!!!!"
